Healthy treats offer numerous benefits for both pets and pet owners. They add variety to an otherwise monotonous diet, promote dental and jaw exercise, and provide behavioral enrichment for animals that have limited living spaces. Furthermore, treats play a crucial role in fostering the bond between pets and their owners, aiding in training and strengthening their relationship.

Initially, your pet squirrel may not show much interest in these Rodent Blocks if other food sources are available. However, these blocks have high nutritional value and are commonly used by squirrel rehabs. The key is to offer rodent blocks first and save nuts and treats for later. If your squirrel is still hesitant to eat the rodent blocks, you can try enticing them with the following mixture:

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup smooth peanut butter
  • 1/4 tablespoon walnut oil (or any other nut-based oil)
  • 1 cup Rodent Blocks
  • 1/4 teaspoon Squirrel-Cal (calcium supplement)

Instructions:

  1. Blend the peanut butter and oil together, then microwave the mixture for approximately 45 seconds.
  2. Stir in the Squirrel-Cal until it is thoroughly mixed.
  3. Pour the mixture over the rodent blocks and stir until the blocks are coated.
  4. Let the mixture sit for at least an hour so that the blocks can absorb the peanut flavor.
  5. On parchment paper or a lightly greased baking sheet, lay out the coated blocks in a single layer.
  6. Bake at 100 degrees Celsius for one hour.
  7. Allow the blocks to cool completely before placing them in a covered dish or bag.
  8. You can store the blocks in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Storage: Keep the blocks stored in a cool and dry place.
